Joe Hart Announces Retirement From Football!

Joe Hart, the 36-year-old goalkeeper for Celtic and former England national team player, announced on Thursday that he will be retiring at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Hart is best known for his 12 seasons with Manchester City, for whom he made 348 appearances and won two Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014. During his time with City, Hart also won the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets four times, establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League.

After falling out of favor at Manchester City in 2016 under manager Pep Guardiola, Hart went on loan spells to Torino in Italy and West Ham United before signing with Burnley in 2018. He spent two seasons as Burnley’s first-choice keeper, making 24 league appearances.

In 2021, Hart joined Scottish giants Celtic where he has gone on to win five trophies over the last three seasons, including back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles. At 36-years-old, Hart said he feels physically great but wanted to retire on his own terms rather than having his body make the decision for him.

For England, Hart earned 75 caps and was the first-choice goalkeeper from 2010 to 2018, featuring in four major tournaments. His last was England’s disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers praised Hart, calling him a “brilliant asset” over his three seasons at the club. Rodgers said Hart will be a “huge miss to the game” when he hangs up his gloves for good after the 2023-24 season concludes.
