Manchester United will make fresh decision on Mason Greenwood, says Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Sir Jim Ratcliffe says Manchester United will make a fresh decision over Mason Greenwood’s future at the club.
Greenwood, 22, was made available for transfer after United confirmed on August 21 that they had abandoned their plan to bring the forward back into the first-team squad.
He had been subject to an internal club investigation since last February when the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control. He denied all the alleged offences.
Greenwood joined La Liga side Getafe on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window and has gone on to make 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals.
When asked if a fresh decision on Greenwood would be made now his minority stake in the club has been confirmed, Ratcliffe said: “Yes, absolutely. We will make a decision and we will justify ’s initial plan was to reintegrate Greenwood into their first-team squad but after criticism and internal backlash, they announced he would be leaving Old Trafford.
The expectation was he would not play for his boyhood club again, having not made an appearance since a match against West Ham in January 2022, with then CEO Richard Arnold again reiterating this to staff inthen-CEOhands meeting in September.

Sporting control of the club has now changed, however, following Ratcliffe’s investment.
“He’s a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football,” Ratcliffe said. “So the answer is yes, we have to make decisions. It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made.
“He’s on loan obviNo decision’s one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on so we will do that.
“The process will decidefacts, not the hype and then try and come to a fair decision on, the basis of which is t, and answer whether plays sorofesterforesterll and wd be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it.”
Greenwood’s Unitedntract runs up to 2025, with an option to extend for a year, though The Athlthe club intended that the club intended that he completed his rehabilitation on loan this term, before sealing a permanent move away.
Getafe did not pay a loan held in the Greenwood deal but hold a 20 per cent sell-on clause as a way to secure value regardless of his next move.
The Spanish club’s president Angel Corres has said they would consider making the move for Greenwood a permanent one.
